This station activity is designed to allow students to explore properties and characteristics of Earth's oceans. While some stations don't require background knowledge and rely on scientific skills (making observations, reading a graph), other stations do require prior knowledge (identifying parts of the ocean floor). See below for what is asked of students at each station:

Station activities included:

Station 1: Students will watch a video clip on deep sea creatures. A laptop with Youtube access is required.

Station 2: Students will answer questions about a marine food web.

Station 3: Students will read a graph of sea surface temperature over time.

Station 4: Students will conduct a mini-experiment exploring surface currents. You will need: A shallow pan or plate, water, straws, and cooking spices.

Station 5: Students will identify geologic features of the ocean floor.

Station 6: Students will read an article about the ethics of how cruise ships handle food waste and sewage.

Station 7: Students will observe 3 marine organisms of your choice. You can provide organisms (such as seashells) or use provided pictures.

Station 8: Students will visit a website that tracks migratory ocean animals.
