Newton's laws of motion station activity
This station activity is designed to allow students to explore Newton's three laws of motion. This is a fun activity to add to your physics unit!
Station activities included:
Station 1: Students will complete a card sort activity.
Station 2: Students will do a spring scale experiment. 2 spring scales are needed for this station.
Station 3: Students will do a coin drop experiment. You will need to provide a coin, notecard, and a cup or beaker.
Station 4: Students will watch a video clip on Newton's 3rd law of motion. You will need to provide a laptop with YouTube access.
Station 5: Students will roll balls of different masses down a ramp. You will need to build a ramp out of classroom materials (textbooks and meter sticks work great) and also provide a cup and 2 balls of different masses (such as a golf ball and ping pong ball).
Station 6: Students will watch a video clip on Newton's 1st law of motion. You will need to provide a laptop with YouTube access.
Station 7: Students will explore a PHET simulation. You will need to provide a laptop with internet access.
Station 8: Students will answer questions about Newton's 1st law and planetary orbits. No additional materials are needed.
Station 9: Students will complete Newton's 2nd law practice problems. You can provide a calculator at this station.
Station 10: Students will build an alka seltzer rocket. You will need to provide a small vial, water, and alka seltzer.
