In this lab students will build balloon rockets and discover the relationship between the size of the balloon and the distance traveled. They will relate this to Newton's 3rd law- action/reaction forces. In the second part of the lab they will change the mass of the rocket and discover how it affects the distance traveled.

Materials needed: yarn or string, balloon, tape, straw, washers or pennies.

Two versions are included:

1. Guided version- Procedures are provided for students. Great for middle school.

2. Inquiry version- Students are given the guided question and have to come up with their own experimental procedures and summarize their findings in a CER chart.

Both versions are fully editable.
