Kingdoms of Life Station Activity
Included in this activity are 10 stations that are centered around biological classification and the 6 biological kingdoms. The lesson is 22 pages and non-editable. See description below of each station and required materials.
Station 1: At this station students will watch a video clip on extremophiles. 1 computer with Youtube access is required.
Station 2: At this station students will complete a card sort. It is recommended to print the pictures in color prior to the activity.
Station 3: At this station students will classify an organism on a prepared microscope slide. A compound microscope with a protist (such as paramecium) is recommended. A picture has been provided as an alternate.
Station 4: At this station students will classify 2 preserved specimens of your choice (choose 2 organisms in different kingdoms). If you do not have access to preserved specimens, pictures have been provided.
Station 5: At this station, students will answer questions about biological taxa. No additional materials are needed.
Station 6: At this station students will answer questions about the evolution of the three domains. No additional materials are needed.
Station 7: At this station students will read an article about Carl Linnaeus. No additional materials are needed.
Station 8: At this station students will answer questions about the need for scientific names opposed to common names. No additional materials are needed.
Station 9: At this station students will practice binomial nomenclature. No additional materials are needed.
Station 10: At this station students will fill out a kingdom characteristic chart. No additional materials are needed.
