Forensic Geology Lab
Teaching rocks and minerals and need a way to spice things up? Try this forensic geology lab! In this lab, students will learn how rock and soil samples can be used to solve a crime.
The teacher will provide students background information on forensic geology, students will read about a fictional crime of a stolen necklace, and use soil samples to eliminate suspects.
Three options are provided:
1. In the first option, the teacher will prepare 6 soil samples and provide stereomicroscopes for students to use as they complete the lab.
2. Don't have stereoscopes? Print the provided soil sample pictures for students to analyze. (Color copies are recommended).
3. Want to go paperless? A digital version of the student lab is provided in powerpoint format (that you can easily convert to Google slides if necessary).
Please note the teacher powerpoint is editable, but the lab itself is not editable.
