This station activity is designed to allow students to explore properties of enzymes. These enrichment stations should be completed after students have already learned about enzymes, as they require prior knowledge. See below for what is asked of students at each station:

Station activities included:

Station 1: Students will answer watch a video clip on enzymes and answer questions.

Station 2: Students will read an article about Maple Syrup Urine Disease, caused by a missing enzyme.

Station 3: Students will answer 8 task cards on enzymes.

Station 4: Students will build a mini 3D model of an enzyme, and visualize protein folding based on amino acid side chains. You will need to provide pipe cleaners and pony beads.

Station 5: Students will see the impact of coenzymes, enzyme inhibitors, and temperature on enzyme efficiency. You will need to provide legos (can be swapped for pop beads, magnets, or anything else that sticks together), ice water, a pair of clean socks, and a stopwatch.

Station 6: Students will do a mini lab observing the impact of changing pH on catalase enzymes. You will need to provide small pieces of raw liver, hydrogen peroxide, bleach, and vinegar.

Station 7: Optional rest station
